Disney has recently announced they will be opening a new theme park in Abu Dhabi.
This comes as a big surprise as this will be the first new Disney theme park in 15 year, following the Shanghai park opening in 2010, and this will be their first entry in the Middle Eastern market.
Disney’s parks represented over 50% percent its operating income in recent fiscal years and even though the Chinese market has been struggling recently due to the trade war, other international parks and the domestic parks attendance has been increasing.
The development and operation of this new resort will be fully handled by Miral, an Abu Dhabi company, and Disney Imagineers will oversee the project.
According to Disney’s officials, new parks always need to match the location it’s inserted in, by reflecting that in its design, food, atmosphere and more, and Abu Dhabi will be no exception.
This new resort will match Abu Dhabi’s futuristic design, and will use modern technology to allow for a more immersive experience.
This strategic location choice not only targets people living in the region, but all those who will then be able to conveniently reach Abu Dhabi’s international airport in a matter of 4 hours or less.
The park has a potential opening of early 2030, and will include an unknown number of hotels as well.
