Drones deliver food to the Great Wall of China
Chinese food delivery company Meituan started a drone delivery service in the Great Wall of China.
The new service covers the Badaling area, a very popular area for tourists that is located quite far from commercial facilities.
Through drones the company is able to deliver supplies in 5 minutes, while on foot it would take around 1 hour. This could be lifesaving in an emergency situation such as delivering heat relief items.
The drones can carry up to 2.3 kilograms and can even fly when it’s raining.
Users only need to pay a delivery fee of 4 yuan (56$ cents) and a Meituan worker will prepare the order. After picking up the item from the store, weighing and packing it, the drone will carry it on autopilot.
This new “low-altitude economy” is getting very popular in China, not only because it boosts rural logistics but because it can also simplify easy takeouts for people living in busy city centers.
