EU asks Meta and TikTok for content quality control details
Late July in 2022 the Digital Services Package (DSA) was created in the EU to create a safe digital space when content quality is controlled and kept truthful, and to create a healthy environment for companies to compete and innovate.
This week, the EU asked Meta (Facebook and Instagram), TikTok and companies to give details on how they are fighting to prevent the spread of disinformation on their platforms after the attacks in Israel by Hamas.
The companies first had 24 hours to explain, and then one week more to give more details on the measures they are taking to comply with the DSA.
Meta said they are working non-stop to monitor the platforms after the attacks and TikTok said they even created a command center of “safety professionals” to automatically detect and remove violent content.
However, the EU felt they needed more details so they gave the companies until the 25th October to give a better response, and warned they would impose financial penalties if they were not satisfied with it.
